To us, the most logical powerplant was BMW’s new turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 that debuted in the X5M and X6M. It develops 555 horsepower and 500 pound feet of torque, more than enough to make the M5 a contender in the high-end super sedan category.

October GM, Chrysler dealers incentives from GMAC

GMAC Financial Services will offer General Motors Co GM.UL and Chrysler Group LLC dealerships in the United States incentives to add to business with the former GM financing arm starting October 1, a spokeswoman said on Friday.

GMAC has had rewards programs in the past and plans to run the new incentives indefinitely in the United States and to offer a similar program in Canada in the near future, spokeswoman Sue Mallino said.

Mercedes-Benz C-ClassGerman carmaker Daimler AG is considering whether to move some production of its Mercedes-Benz C-Class models to Alabama from Germany, a newspaper reported Wednesday.

The daily Stuttgarter Zeitung reported, without citing sources, that the company’s management is mulling whether to move production of the C-Class from its Sindelfingen plant, in the Stuttgart suburbs, to Tuscaloosa.

Toyota ‘09/10′ global sales forecast raised 3%

Toyota Motor Corp has raised its global sales forecast for the year to March 2010 by 3 percent to 6.7 million cars, the Tokyo Shimbun daily reported on Saturday, in the latest sign of a nascent recovery in auto demand.

Toyota, the world’s largest automaker, is also raising its global production by 8 percent to 6.45 million vehicles for 2009/10, thanks to the impact of government subsidies and tax incentives on new fuel efficient cars, the paper said.

Volvo V70 Plug-in HybridVolvo is introducing a series-produced plug-in hybrid as early as 2012. Pure electric power from the battery will cover the daily transport needs of 75 percent of European drivers. For longer distances, an efficient diesel hybrid engine automatically takes over. The combined range is about 1200 kilometres. Carbon dioxide emissions will average out at 49 grams per kilometre, with fuel consumption of 1.9 litres per 100 km.

Volvo is convinced that in the future, customers will continue to want safe, comfortable cars with good driving properties and generous load-carrying ability. Irrespective of whether they are powered by electricity or other fuels.
